Festival Reviews!

Dare I say it Jazz in the stables has become one of the hottest events at the Petworth Festival, every year it quickly sells out and this year was no exception. The combination of a very good Retro 1920's band, the Bratislava Hot Serenaders with support of the talented youth that are the West Sussex Big Band, in the most atmospheric performance space in the South, courtesy of Lord and Lady Egremont and the National Trust, plus the added bonus of a perfect Summers evening. The Serenaders perfectly reproduced the music of the big band era down to the last detail including authentic 20's dress code. The Serenaders Sisters especially, looked so cute as they sang their close harmony numbers in their 20's frocks.

What makes this evening so special though is the fact that this is the night that Petworthians let their hair down and dance till they drop on the cobbles of the stables of Petworth House!. Review by J.Bird - Petworth 28/7/16

Last year was so brilliant that I looked forward to this year with much anticipation. I wasn't disappointed as it was a wonderful evening out. The warm up session from the West Sussex Festival Big Band showed off some very talented young musicians but I thought it was a shame that their leader didn't have much presence and didn't really promote them. The Bratislava Hot Serenaders were hugely entertaining and, as well as some delightful music from their home country they played many nostalgic jazz era period pieces which took you back in time helped very much by the 'Serenaders Sisters' in their period costume. Can't wait to listen to their CD. - Review by T.S 2/8/16 Petworth
