Prokofiev Sonata No. 8 in B-flat major, Op. 84

We welcome rising Welsh musician Tomos Boyles who is rapidly carving out a career as a concert pianist. Tomos graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University in 2022 with a first-class degree in music having held a scholarship during his studies. Now a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he works under Professor Rustem Hayroudinoff and was recently awarded the Royal Academy’s prestigious Bicentenary Scholarship.

His repertoire surveys a sweep of great piano repertoire including two of Ligeti’s Etudes, one of the most significant sets of piano studies of the 20th century which combine virtuoso technical mastery and expressive content. The programme concludes with Prokofiev’s vast, introspective wartime masterpiece, his Sonata No 8 in Bb.
