Amyas are a period instrument group specialising in exuberant performances of historical repertoire, all of the members being specialists in historically informed performance.

In the fabulously comfortable environment of Sofas and Stuff’s Fittleworth HQ and accompanied by the finest tea coffee and cup-cakes, The Amyas Ensemble invites you into a vibrant world of medieval passion, mischief, and melody.

Featuring music from the 12th to 15th centuries, this colourful programme weaves together lilting love songs, delightfully bawdy tunes, and dances that range from sweetly lyrical to irresistibly foot-tapping. Performed on an evocative array of instruments — recorders, voice, fiddle, gitterns, lute, percussion, and bagpipes (not the loud Scottish ones in case you are worried!). The concert celebrates the joy, humour, and heartfelt expression of early music at its most alive. Join us for an afternoon where centuries-old sounds feel fresh, playful, and full of summer spirit.

Led by recorder player Emily Baines and multi-instrumentalist Arngeir Hauksson, Amyas create performances which not only bring to light the practices of the past but the vitality and freshness which would have characterised the first performances.

‘Amyas play with lively rhythm and a twinkle in their eye…’ The Recorder Magazine
