The Painting

This painting shows Queen Henrietta Maria standing beside Sir Jeffrey Hudson. Although the Queen is much smaller than many royal figures shown in paintings, she stands confidently and proudly. The artist places her at the centre so we understand her importance. Sir Jeffrey Hudson stands close by, dressed for the royal court, showing that he is trusted and valued. Together, they look like characters from a story about loyalty, travel, and adventure. The painting invites us to think about ho people can be powerful in different ways - through intelligence, courage, humour, and determination - not just through size.

EASEBOURNE School Year 4 – Badgers

  • I am small, but I am smart,
I am full of tricks and monkey flips
    I am a jolly jester.

I am short but I am strong,
I can entertain, defend your name,
    I am a loyal fighter.

    I went to France,
I joined The Queen in a merry dance,
    I went to sea,
But the pirates got to me!

I feel sad and all alone,
I’ve been captured far from home,
The pirates can be fierce and cruel,
The feed me on nothing but bread and gruel.

I may be locked away and ashamed,
But I will not become a slave,

No more will I live in misery,
I’ll find the guard and while they sleep,
I’ll take away the golden key,
The pirates will be afraid of me
My daring plot will set me free!
